Spar River Mile Mens Race

Africa's oldest open water swimming event, the SPAR River Mile, takes to the waters of the Sundays River from the 23rd and 24th of February 2013, for a bumper two day festival of sports and entertainment!  The very first River Mile was in 1924 in Redhouse on the Swartkops River, since then the River Mile has grown into one of Nelson Mandela Bay's premier social events attracting thousands of social swimmers and spectators from around the country. The weekend boasts a jam-packed program of sporting events for the whole family, starting off on Saturday the 23rd of Feb with disciplines including; a 5km Fun trail Run, the Discovery Consulting Services off-road team or individual triathlon, the Second Skins wetsuit Mile, the Disabled

2013 is the year we can call PE - Sport Elizabeth, with AFCON madness having already hit the bay, rugby season tickets having just gone on sale and Hobie Nationals coming up in March it is going be a cracker of a year for sporting fanatics in the Nelson Mandela Bay district. What’s more is Port Elizabeth's premier cycle tour; The Herald VW Cycle Tour takes place on the 2nd of February at the ever popular Hobie Beach. Famed as the second oldest national classic event in South Africa and now in its 28th year, this year the tour stretches its footprint from Port Elizabeth to Addo for a jam-packed cycling weekend from the 1st to the 3rd of February. The Herald VW Cycle Tour features new routes as well as a new category for riders                  

Ironman 2012

Triathlon

Triathletes give it their all this weekend for Ironman 2012, the ultimate fitness test and one of the world’s toughest endurance races. A total of 226km completes the three disiplines of the race and gives the athlete title of Ironman or woman. The first of three activities to complete Ironman is a 3.8km sea swim. Starting at Hobie Beach from 7am on Sunday the 22 April. There will be two loops of 1.9km’s around demarcated buoys in the bay, in water temperatures averaged to  be between 17°C and 24°C, the cut off time for the swim is 2hrs 20mins. The second leg of the race is a 180km cycle; from Hobie Beach on completion of the swim. Contestants will cycle along the coast for 3km’s
