What’s Up Liam: After 9 months

Liam around the World

Travel is a common aspiration of many. Why is this? Why do people feel the desire to see new places and experience new things? I often ask myself these questions. For some, the aspiration might be driven by the desire to see a place they have been dreaming about, for others it’s to get away from a situation and gain a new life experience. For whatever reason one travels, a common dominator is that travel results in change. It takes you out of your comfort zone. It puts you in a new place with new challenges, new experiences, and new opportunities. It gives you the chance to experience the feeling of ‘living’. Hopping on a plane puts yesterday’s problems aside. The grass becomes greener. Not because it is greener, but

Cape Wine 2012

Cape Wine, hosted by Wines of South Africa (WOSA), is back after four years with a significant commitment from producers keen to showcase the major advances in local winemaking to the international trade fraternity of wine buyers, restaurateurs, sommeliers and media. The three-day trade exhibition, to be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from September 25 to 27, has already drawn strong support from two-thirds of the country’s winemakers, including the major corporates, independents and artisanal producers who have confirmed their participation. According to WOSA CEO Su Birch delegates will be coming from across Europe, the UK, North America, as well as Africa, Latin America, Hong Kong, China and

Nanaga Farm Stall

Nanaga Farm Stall Port Elizabeth

The legend continues.. To the PE virgin, ‘Nanaga’ means nothing.   It’s just a word that is difficult to pronounce. To everyone else, it is a magical term that retains a mythical and nostalgic quality, bringing back memories of delicious pies and refreshments from a little building on an innocuous stretch of road. As a child, you always had to stop at the legendary Nanaga Farm Stall and, as a grown up, nothing has changed. Nanaga is a success story built around its famous, handmade pies.  Anyone who has approached Port Elizabeth from the northeast will testify having being told vehemently in advance by locals to stop for a chicken, mint and lamb or spinach and feta pie.  The

Mastertons’s Coffee and Tea Specialists

An Eastern Cape Success Story Among the legendary and somewhat secretive gems that make up Port Elizabeth is Masterton’s Coffee and Tea Specialists.  It is difficult to miss this legendary establishment if you find yourself heading up Russell Road in the suburb of Central.  This is because even if  you do not see the quaint, picture book building on the corner, you will be able to smell it.There are few things in the world as pleasurable as the smell of freshly roasted coffee beans and there is an invisible fog of this heavenly scent that hangs around that entire corner. The thought of a world without coffee or tea is a scary one. Thankfully, that is why companies like Masterton’s
